NEW IMPRESSIONS
by Steve Norris
These Smoky Mountain paintings are done in a much different style
than the full size Masters Editions. Most of the masters paintings
are painted on large 24”x36” or 24”x30” canvases and take Steve well
over a hundred hours to complete each one. This results in very
highly detailed paintings that hold up under close-up inspection and
scrutiny, even with a magnifying glass. In comparison, the art
pieces shown here are usually painted in only a few hours. As a
result, the smaller details are more impressionist or completely
lacking. The original painting size for these little pieces average
half the size of the masters editions, or even smaller. The printing
process is all digital; a much less expensive printing process than
the high-tech giclee system reserved for the large masters
paintings. Therefore these prints are much more affordable.
Steve is often asked, where do you get your ideas? Steve has
photographed many of his scenes and subjects himself, including many
bears. All of his masters editions are done from his own photographs
with occasionally a few detail and lighting cues taken from photos
found elsewhere. Many of these pictures are from Smoky Mountain
picture books, calendars, post cards, and from the hundreds of Smoky
Mountain websites. The little paintings of the birds are a good
example. It is very difficult to photograph a bird close enough to
get details, so the use of Smoky Mountain wildlife book photos are
often used. Of course, changes are made and details added so that
each painting is unique.
Prices for unmatted new impressions digital prints are $5.00 for
3”x5” and $9.00 for the 5”x7” size. They are shipped free with a
foam-core backing. The painting’s title with the artist’s signature
are on the reverse side of the backing. For double-matted prints,
add $4.00 for the 3”x5” and $8.00 for the 5”x7” size. See the Mat
Designs link for mat color choices.
If you would like to make a purchase, just email Steve with your
request and he, or one of his staff, will get back to you very soon.
